eclectic thoughts and experiences

I've spent my last few days indulging in too much charcoal chicken and an assortment of desserts. So much for going on a diet. I keep saying I'll start jogging, yet my new sneakers just keep collecting dust. I've been pondering what to save up for and a holiday to Antarctica seems rather tempting, I've always dreamt of going there ever since I was a child. I suppose I like to chase after the unconventional. Hope you have a sweet week ahead! Image credit:  impossibleastronaut

still falling - saybia

I don't really have anything of interest to write about lately.I watched Barfuss with my sister again, I guess that movie gets me thinking a lot about things. A lot of things have upset me lately. Primarily my lack of direction in life. I've got too many ideas in my head. The stress lately has made me lose my temper pretty quickly. I find cleaning a quiet way to release my anger, I have a habit of cleaning at odd times. Sometimes at 4am... This week I managed to clean when unwanted guests came to visit. I think the guests realised I didn't want them in my room when I started cleaning and throwing things out. All the noise and chit chat just annoyed me, I wanted to study (and think, of course). I think I need some macarons or cake to cheer up. I might just meet a friend up in the city today for some coffee or cake... I believe its time I start jogging in the evening again, it definately helped me sleep at regular times.

The field trip wasn't that bad. I'm glad I ran into Olly and a few other familiar faces at the agricultural campus. We pretty much stuck together for our experiment, and I'd say it was good teamwork. I like visiting this campus, well I love the environment there. Its quite relaxing seeing all the grass and farm animals here and there. I discovered the scenery was best enjoyed whilst sitting in a covertible with the wind through your hair. The downside was super messy hair and untamed knots. Oh yes, I decided to help Pisan with her research by buying two cupcakes. Sticky date with caramel on top and a strawberry cupcake. Of course I shared the cupcake with Cindy. Pisan gets.... The lovely box! I can't wait to go to Adriano Zumbo's cafe with Pisan on Saturday. Yum... More macarons!

Met up with Jess, Tom, Tim and Sara last Thursday. Its been some time since we all got together, I'd say the last time that happened it was a little more than a year ago. I do miss old times when we all used to have lunch and just hang out at parra after classes. Good old times. Its as though things haven't really changed that much. We've grown a little wiser, a little more ambitious (sometimes) and maybe a little more zombie-like from all nighters (I mean me). I've been craving macarons at Baroque more often. Pisan said she has to do some research for her design assignment, coincidentally she is trying to collect packaging from pastry stores. Yes, this is good news for me and my sweet tooth. Perhaps we'll finally go make a visit to Balmain for macarons at Adriano Zumbo's cafe. I can tell I'm going to enjoy  pigging out  helping Pisan with her research... On the other hand, my research is killing me. DNA markers, PCR, Clostridium botulism, and benz...

must concentrate at 4am

Woke up from a nap and now its time to plough on with the reports. All I can think about is macarons at Le Renaissance Patisserie... They do have really nice olive oil macaron with white chocolate ganache... Okay time to snap out of it. Macarons can come later, this weekend or perhaps the next. I'm armed with my can of V, time to think organic chemistry. Nothing is a waste of time if you use the experience wisely.

So my mom's flying to Vietnam this Monday, despite the fact that the funeral was yesterday. But I do think its a good idea that she goes back to her roots for a while. Well a month really. I'm fine with cooking for my sister and I, but my dad eats like he ever seen food in his life. So thats what gets me a bit worried. Cindy and I decided to go to the rocks for the markets, seeing as today is officially the last one for a while. I know I'm not supposed to take pictures at MCA but what the heck. I just have to take at least one photo from one visit. I love the painting above, its the same painting but from different perspectives. The first one is of the painting when viewed from the left side, and the second one is of the same painting when viewed from the right. I guess that really says something about perspective. I happened to run into these lovely ladies at the rocks market this afternoon. Aren't they stunning? I'm sure they have a great sense of characte...

for the love of poffertjes!

Met up with H today, it was a rather spontaneous meeting... H called to ask about certain plans I had texted about a few days ago and we diverted to the topic of caffeine. Out of the blue I just asked if H would want to catch up over coffee right now... We went to a cafe and I think I almost fainted once I saw the menu. Poffertjes ! I think the fainting bit applied to the both of us, pity we had to rush to get to the cinema shortly. So we opted for coffee only. Well fudge, I'm pretty behind with my studies. Maybe I should study til my brain explodes just for the sake of catching up. Simply put it this way, I'm easily distracted and an occasional daydreamer. Okaynow for some good news! Chuyen gave birth to her daughter a few days ago. Raelynn sounds like a very beautiful name. I must go visit her very soon and get some sort of a present for Raelynn. Sometimes I regret the things I say, other times I simply regret the things I don't say. I'm sorry for ignoring you tim...

comfort food

Today started out with what seemed like a terrible day. You know the signs... The grey sky, the rain, and running absolutely late. I do have to admit immunology sort of intimidated me, it seems the level of standards have taken another step forward. I'm absolutely ridiculous when it comes to keeping a proper laboratory book. I've always found myself in trouble from the lecturer for scribbling down calculations or results on scrap pieces of paper. Oh yes, I saw Kate at the molecular biology lecture. She seems fine now, I think Peter is finally out of her system. We were discussing reproduction parasitism and how some female insects kill their mate. Kate just responded with " about time ". I didn't know if I was supposed to laugh or agree with her. This is what happens when Priya and I get bored in a lecture...  The rest of the evening involved feasting on some comfort food. I do love a good risotto when gloomy weather looms ahead. Good food, good company, bu...

for sustainability

Well I printed out my UAC papers and I guess I'll pay for it next week sometime. I feel genuinely lost. I thought I was alone on this one, but I guess Helen was a tad lost herself too. I guess we'll all settle these things soon... Okay so we all went to MSL's house yesterday to sort of model for her assignment. By modelling I mean we had to pretend to sing and look like we were having a great time. Needless to say, we were not very good with pretending to be happy. It was sort of bizarre to have a camera pointed in your direction without the need to stifle a few chuckles here and there. Well we had to play a little game she made for her project. The game consisted of questions to pin point whether a person's lifestyle was sustainable or not. The funny part was the unsustainable people (Fok & Tony) had to sing a song we call 'eat it' , which was a hilarious MJ knock off. It was pretty fun, posing for snaps and repeating a few lines here and there. I...

the sweet things in life

Today was another splendid day with Sara, Sylvie, Jenny and Ajla. A literally sweet day which consisted of coffee, pancakes, snapshots & memories. Seeing as Sylvie has not been in contact with asian culture for the past 6 years in America... We decided to go to the chinese gardens to dress up and pose for pictures. Totally embarassing, I know. But it was heaps of fun being with the girls. Plenty of giggles to go around. It was disappointing that the day seemed to end so soon. Much like the days remaining til Sylvie goes back home to Washington. She seemed quite amazed by the beauty of Circular Quay (yes Sara, key). All these years I've lived here I never really noticed the serenity of the quay. It was always bustling with tourists taking pictures or tourists asking you to take their picture. But when the sun begins to set, it truly is a magnificent view. I used to take that for granted, but today it was captivating. I wish everyday was like today.
